Charles Dickens wrote, “I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” During this Holiday Season, Reeves & Associates invites you to pause and take a moment out of your busy schedule to not only honor Christmas, but to also consider how you can keep it in your heart throughout the New Year. Indeed, many Christmas gifts, including the gift of family, will remain long after you take down the Christmas decorations and will last the whole year long. Here at Reeves & Associates, we are committed to honoring the spirit and gifts of Christmas all the year long by providing the very best representation possible and pursuing real immigration solutions for all immigrants and their families.
Over the past year, immigrants and their families have been given many reasons to be hopeful for positive changes in our immigration system. For example, several encouraging cases have come down from both the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Board of Immigration Appeals affirming due process in court proceedings and permitting immigrants who entered the United States with a fiancée visa to adjust their status based on their marriage, even after the marriage ends in divorce.
Just this past October, President Obama passed into law Congress’s landmark immigration bill that ends the automatic revocation of a visa petition when the petitioner dies.
Furthermore, it appears that the Obama administration and Congress are beginning to honor its commitment to families and will address comprehensive immigration reform, giving immigrants good cause to be hopeful for the year to come.
For nearly 30 years, Reeves & Associates has honored its commitment to families by successfully helping countless immigrants change their status to lawful permanent residents, become United States citizens and be reunited with their families and loved ones. Moreover, Reeves & Associates’ attorneys have consistently been successful in some of the nation’s more complex immigration cases.
For example, this past year Reeves & Associates’ attorneys successfully defended an immigrant against accusations of false U.S. citizenship claims; won countless number of waivers in immigration court and subsequently obtained United States citizenship for immigrants who originally entered the United States through fraud; secured the release from immigration detention of a wrongfully detained individuals; and compelled the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (“USCIS”) to adjudicate cases that have been pending for an unreasonable amount of time. In short, Reeves & Associates commitment extends to even the most difficult cases.
Finally, Reeves & Associates continues to honor its commitment to families as a leader in litigating the USCIS’s misapplication of the Child Status Protection Act (“CSPA”). This litigation provides hope for thousands of families who have suffered from wrongful separation from their families. Specifically, Reeves & Associates is class counsel in a class action lawsuit to compel the USCIS to recognize the automatic conversion and retention of the original priority date of the original visa petition under Section 203(h)(3) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. (“INA”.) Although the Board of Immigration Appeals issued a decision limiting the application of Section 203(h)(3), Reeves & Associates will continue to pursue this case, confident that the federal court will ultimately compel the USCIS to follow the law as written, providing relief for thousands of families.
To honor Christmas this season is to honor family. Hopefully you are with your family as you buy gifts, listen to Christmas music, decorate your Christmas tree and prepare for the Christmas dinner. We all know that the most important part of Christmas is being with your families – and we hope you are able to celebrate with yours. Our firm is committed to bringing and keeping families together, and we will honor this gift of family “all the year,” even with the most difficult cases.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
