Saskatchewan Expects 10,000 Expats This Year

Canada is now one of the premiere destinations of foreign workers because of the job opportunities that the country offers. The country continues to accept workers and retirees in spite of the global financial crisis.

Saskatchewan, Canada is still in need of more foreign workers to sustain their need for labor market. The province immigration minister Rob Norris says that they are expecting 10,000 international migrants in the next 12 to 18 months.

Foreign workers have contributed big with the province’s economic growth. Saskatchewan targets to give 3,400 programs that would benefit 10,000 immigrants since most foreign workers bring their family with them once they moved to the province. Last year, 7,500 migrants moved to Saskatchewan.

Due to the success of immigration program of Canada, Minister Norris says that the government is planning to improve more their strategy. The government aims to provide an avenue where interested applicants can ask questions. The government will also include educational services with their new program. Most nominees are welders, physicians, professors, post-secondary teaching assistants and long-haul truck drivers.

The new nomination program of the province is a success. The process of application decreased 24 percent or just 5.2 months. Applications also increased for about 53 percent.

"We've seen sustained interest," said Norris. "I have every expectation we're going to meet this goal."
