Australia is still looking to recruit more overseas information technology (IT) professionals to meet the current shortages. Companies are highly looking for IT professionals that possess the following skills: C#/.NET, Java/J2EE, VoIP, SAP, Oracle, Siebel, security, compliance (SOX), ITIL and storage.

Other skills, aside from IT professionals, that are in demand are project managers and administrators, business analysts, enterprise architects and test engineers.

Company managers planned to create an employer-of-choice status to provide a complete package to staff. According to the managers, the package includes bonuses for performance, share options and extending technology into the home environment for more flexible working hours. There are also companies offering rewards such as a day off in lieu, and free surfing lessons or they something like a ticket for two to Queensland with two nights accommodation, and a day’s annual leave.

Companies, like NSW, instead of hiring contractors in areas where they may be uncertain of demand prefer permanent staff.

Reports said that Canberra and Adelaide has a bulk IT vacancies which is an advantage for applicants since cost of living here is suited to young professional with families and it is easy traveling from home to work.

Employers are looking for applicants with a minimum work experience of four (4) years, proficient in English, holding an IT degree and must be under 45 years of age.
